The range of artists is impressive, from Professor Longhair and Elvis Presley to Jimmy Page and Bryan Ferry. White uses narrative, fact listing and interviews to tie each artist’s story into the larger story of pop music.     3. Sophisticated writing that, I confess, required several dictionary pauses. Interesting to see how rock and roll came to be and the many talents who pioneered it, shaped it and carry it forward. The sneak peeks behind the scenes with the artists made me more more appreciative some and some much less. And still others left me wondering how on earth they lived to tell.
